Meet the dynamic duo behind Yum Yum Sushi Desserts…

John and Lisa Hines had big plans. Lisa was moving over to the US to live with John as they set up their own restaurant, combining Lisa’s lifelong baking and cake love with John’s classic dishes and meat smokers. Like with many budding businesses, the Covid pandemic changed all that!

Instead, John moved over to the UK, and they set about launching an online business, focused on one of the most unique dishes that they had up their sleeve. A dish that took the traditional method of making sushi, but used an array of tasty chocolates, luscious buttercreams, fruity extracts and indulgent extras, to produce a sushi like no other. A dessert like no other. Yum Yum Sushi Desserts was born.

John Hines

Co-founder

John Hines

A nine time award-winning Executive Chef, Food and Drink Director and former owner of the #1 ranked restaurant, Turquoise, in Key West, Florida. John’s passion for high quality food runs deep, going back to his childhood in his native Tennessee. His passion and enthusiasm as owner of Turquoise landed him with his own TV cooking show, “Cooking in the Keys with Master Chef John Hines.”

His passion for exceptional quality and unique dishes, combined with his wife Lisa’s flair for baking led them to create and launch Yum Yum Sushi Desserts in 2020.  A big personality, vibrant outfits and a passion for spreading happiness that tastes unlike anything you’ve ever had before – that’s John through and through!

His favourite flavour? In his words, “it’s got to be Chocolate & Bourbon Whisky. Made with 101 proof whisky, which is the best whisky to use, it’s that flavour which reminds me of my Tennessee roots!”

Lisa Hines

Co-founder

Lisa Hines

Lisa is a former UK civil service manager. She now follows her real passion in life; to express her creative flair as a passionate and experienced baker and cake decorator that she is today.

Lisa was originally going to join John out in the US to build their own restaurant, however the pandemic of 2020 meant that the journey was switched, with Lisa practicing, designing and then launching the very first Yum Yum Sushi Desserts from her own kitchen.

Her flair with the ingredients meant that shortly after the original range of 12 was launched, a Vegan range followed, with no compromise on the quality or flavour. Lisa loves the opportunity of bringing to life the new flavours, designs and ranges!

Her favourite flavour? “No contest! Sea Salt Caramel. Rich, silky smooth, creamy, and you can’t beat dark chocolate for an after dinner indulgence.”
